Frank McNie was born in Falkirk, Scotland in
1948. His father Frank was a tradesman, his mother Margaret hailed from
Ayrshire. His ancestry traces back via Edinburgh and Stirling to the
McNie’s at the Lake of Menteith in 1735. He likes to think they were
part of Rob Roy’s band of reevers although he has found no evidence of
this, it is fertile ground for a vivid imagination. Frank’s Mother
died when he was six years old leaving him with a void, which was only,
filled after several years of marriage to June Marina his Highland
Lassie.
Frank and June have two daughters,
Morvern is an accomplished performance poet. Sarra is a wonderful figure
painter. They have two dogs and two cats and a turtle all artistic in
their own way. June Marina is perhaps the only sane member of the
family, but she also has her moments.
Frank has been writing poetry off and on
since age sixteen after he was told by the Falkirk Employment Center,
that the battery of psychological tests he had just taken suggested that
he was best suited to be a poet, (there first ever). He was offered an
office job, it being the closest match on their books. He moved to
Toronto shortly after where he and his wife have owned several Scottish
restaurants: -Tartan Annie’s…Hamish’s Kitchen…McNie’s Lovely
Grub, to name a few.
Frank has read poetry on Toronto radio
and had a few pieces published he anxiously awaits his first royalty
payment but isn’t quite ready to give up his day job yet.
