The Luna Plant
Here's a story that's come before us,
About the leading plant in Nature's chorus.
It grows in the rain forest dark and deep,
And blooms at night when others sleep.
It's purpose in nature's wondrous web,
Is that it's a storehouse of life when others ebb.
Imagine if you can-
All the wild flowers known to man-
Altogether in one herbaceous glorious,
With the proud moon shining so victorious
The Luna Plant its name, we're told,
Has had but one companion from days of old.
It grows all its life in conjunction,
With the Glory Bird who's only function-
Is to tend in all the wild rain forests,
This leading plant of natures chorus.
Sometimes for unknown reason,
A wild plant won't bloom in season,
That's when the Glory Bird in its nocturnal flight,
Will spread some Luna seeds throughout the night,
Then as if by some great guiding hand,
The blooms return to the barren land.
But intervention mostly mans,
Can interfere with nature's plans.
Sometimes man can prove too great a foe,
For even the Glory Bird to make things grow.
That's when the Luna Plant with great expectations,
Will store that plant's seeds for future generations.
But man's greed is so senseless,
The rain forest so defenseless.
That eerie sound of man made thunder-
Is falling trees for human plunder.
In the wake of that ferocious storm,
Death and destruction are the norm.
The Luna Plant is no exception,
It will die in bright sun reflection.
Yet the Luna Plant must go on living,
So that the Glory bird can go on giving-
Help wherever needed
To the barren lands unseeded.
Plants and animals have grown up together,
Their lives entwined with one another.
Every time a plant becomes extinct,
Another animal will reach the brink.
It's long past time that man should realize,
On plants and animals he relies.
He could help if he would ease the pressure,
Lend a hand in some small measure.
If he did there could be a great reunion
With man once more a part of Nature's Union |
