My husband's family was for
me a constant interesting kaleidoscope. Each and everyone of them had a
strong colorful life with a variety about them of incredible difference
yet; sameness. Though distance and separate lives kept me from knowing
them well on a personal level I always felt a closeness to them.
At the time of this
photograph, October 1965, from left to right this is:
Louise Flood
Smith, Lima
Peru
John Flood, Ponca City, Oklahoma (one of the twins, my husband, Rodney
Lee Flood's father).
Sara Ann Henderson, Chula Vista, California
Dan Earl Flood, Tucson, Arizona
Sylvia Flood West, Norman, Oklahoma
George Flood, Durango, Colorado
Ross Flood, Stillwater, Oklahoma (the other twin)
Florence Flood, "Bobbie" Buttleman. Houston, Texas
This family was descendant
of John Flood, and Anna Tierney Flood of the Isle of Wight, an island
off the coast of England.
It is my wish to record what
I know of the family in order to keep a history for my children, and grandchildren,
who are Floods. Shamefully, I must admit to, not knowing a lot.
Circumstances, distance in location, and working families didn't allow
for much exchange. Once a year the family would get together, but it was
these brothers and sisters. The children did not often attend. It always
seemed a private time for the brothers and sisters to enjoy seeing each
other and I didn't like to take away from that. Now I would be different
in my thinking. It would have been wonderful to know more about them.
