So the social life of Edinburgh has many
faces. Great attractions have been added to the city's annual calendar since the first
Edinburgh International Festival in 1947 and the first Tattoo in 1968. But different
people have always come to the city for different reasons and for many February in
Edinburgh means rugby just as to others August means the festival. It also means staying
at the North British. Bob Cunningham remembers preparing lamb chops by the hundred for
resident Welsh players that they could carrying on drinking all night long as they stopped
singing.
"Forget the festival", says Steve Kew,
an oil engineer who travels regularly between London and Aberdeen and tries not to miss a
Rugby International. His grandfather always said you could never get a better breakfast
that at the North British. "As far as I am concerned Edinburgh means the rugby and
the NB. And it always will".
