Biographies of Scots and Scots Descendants (Mc)
MacQuagge |
I am a descendant of Duncan McQuagge who lived
in Walton County Florida and was born in North Carolina in the 1760`s or
1770`s. His parents may have lived in Anson or Richmond Counties, North
Carolina. My family tradition has it that three brothers came from
Scotland on prison ship and landed in North Carolina. They had been
expelled from Scotland for killing the king`s deer and were gunsmiths by
trade. When the king`s guard would confiscate their firearms they would
simply go home and make more. He had four sons, John M. who settled and
pioneered Fountain Floride. Norman, who stayed in Walton County, lived next
to his parents and reared a large family. Then there was Samuel was
murdered by John Amons whose case was tried in Calhoun County. The fourth
son was Daniel, who was born about 1794, moved to Jackson County Florida
and started the line to my family. I would very mush like to know the
McQuagge`s family origin in Scotland and what, if any, clan affiliation
they may have had.
