Biographies of Scots and Scots Descendants (B) Barnet,
James
One of the best known printers in Chicago in
the 1870's. He and his brother, Alexander, were typical, loyal Scots and
were among those who organized the Scotch Presbyterian Church. James was a
book publisher and writer and many pamphlets and books were issued before
the Chicago Fire of 1871. Nearly all these have disappeared. One, however
survives (Thomas C. MacMillan's personal library) called "The Martyrs
and Heroes of Illinois", published in 1865.
