(1916-1995) Ballantine and his wife, Betty founded Ballatine Books, Penguin USA and Bantam books, which led the paperback revolution in the U.S. Ballatine, born in NYC to a Scottish father and a Russian-Jewish mother "helped make the genres of science fiction, fantasy, western and mystery".
