SUMMARY OF THE YEAR

The past year has been very interesting for CLAN MAC LENNAN ASSN USA INC. In June of this year the chief, Ruaridh ,visited Glasgow Kentucky for the “International Clan gathering “ along with six other Clan Chiefs. Despite the rain all in attendance had a very exciting time meeting the Clan Chief.

The Clan has been discussing with the Heart of Tennessee gathering in Murfreesboro ,Tn to invite the Chief to their games as a guest of honour. More information will be provided as soon as it becomes available.

INFORMATION FROM CHIEF

This is just a short message to you to up-date you all with our current news. I am pleased to finally say that I have been accecpted into the workforce and will be starting work as a trainee Land Agent (Rural Surveyor) with one of Britain's leading Property Companies. Strutt and Parker specialises in the management and selling of large estates, agricultural and forestry land units. There web site is "http://www.struttandparker.co.uk/" for any of you who are interested in looking at what they do.
I start work in a week and will be based in Banchory in Aberdeen - Shire but will mainly be tasked to Highland Estates due to my background. This suits me very well as it means I will have the opportunity to get home to Dores fairly regularly. Strutt & Parker deals with the larger and more exclusive estates so I should receive a good training. I will be a trainee for two years after which I sit my Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) and if I pass this I will be a chartered Rural Surveyor accredited to the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and will therefore be a qualified Land Agent.

I have been home this weekend in Dores where we have been celebrating Lorna's birthday (27th I think)!! Kirsteen has been home as well so it has been nice to all get together for a while. Lorna is getting quite close to finishing her nurse training and will start work around June next year. This will put all three of us into the working world, not sure if that is a good thing! Kirsteen has been travelling a fair bit, mainly to Africa. Her job seems fairly safe at the moment but British Airways are laying off a lot of their staff so we will see how things turn out.

Other than that things will be set for a busy few weeks as I have to organise a car, somewhere to live, my dissertation and I still have a few more days to work on Dunecht Estate this week so will only have a few days off before starting the new job. I will be in touch soon with details of my new abode and will let you know how the new job is going. Until then all the best and I trust you are all in good health and spirit.

Yours aye
Ruairidh

INFORMATION FROM CLAN PRESIDENT

I and CLAN MAC LENNAN USA INC are excited about finally using the electronic highway more thoroughly. We are starting this month sending out our newsletter via e-mail. However I desperately need each and every member’s cooperation in order for this to be achieved.Everyone has got to follow this simple request with no exceptions. ALL MEMBERS MUST fill out the form in this newsletter found in the section “Important Clan Mac Lennan Information” so that the distribution of this newsletter can be fully achieved.. Being aware that not everyone has e-mail we are asking all the members to tell us if they have an e-mail address or not. For those who do not have an e-mail address we will continue to mail out the newsletters. Failure to tell us whether you have an e-mail address or not will mean that we will not send out this letter to those members.

To really make our clan to work we need participants. We are looking for people who would like to get involved in our clan, If you would like to help please contact me at winthescot@aol.com.

WHAT IS HOGMANY

Have you ever wondered where the Scots got the word Hogmany? It is the word used in Scotland for the last day of the year,December 31st. It is also a period of gift giving or any other form of hospitality ,including a dram given to a visitor.  In olden days it was also a phrase for any monies given to a tradesman or employee on that last day for their services rendered throughout the previous year
However,it was not originally called hogmany. One explanation states that long ago at the final service of the year in gratitude, the congregation was asked to embrace each other for the fruitful year and a successful new year. The leaders of each church allowed and encouraged their worshipers to break with tradition of no speech and hug each other in appreciation and one and all they said" hug me now'. This expression descended in time to become rendered Hogmany.

OUR CHIEF IS COMING TO THE STONE MOUNTAIN GAMES IN ATLANTA GA

Chief Ruariridh Mac Lennan has  accepted an invitation to attend the Stone Mountain Highland games in Atlanta Ga  October 17-20, 2002 along with his two sisters, Kirsteen and Lorna.

The games are celebrating  30 years and have decide to invite all the past guests of honor to return.

In addition to the chief's visit the Stone Mountain Games  are bringing back the Tattoo on Thursday night. Anyone who has seen this tattoo in the past knows it has been rated as one of the best in the world for Scottish Clan gatherings.

The Guest of Honor for the 2002 games will be the Duke of Montrose.

I hope that as many as possible of our members will set this date aside and be present to meet our chief, have a great Clan Maclennan fellowship as well as enjoy the Festive Experience of the Stone Mountain Games.

I will post further information as it becomes available.
