| DAY 1 - 40 MILES (64KM) From Inverness go to Cromarty (court house visitor centre) via Fortrose. Visit
Strathpeffer (crafts) then go north to Dornoch (cathedral, crafts).
DAY 2 - 90 MILES (144KM) Visit Dunrobin Castle near
Golspie, Timespan Heritage Centre at Helmsdale and continue north to Wick (Heritage
Centre) via Clan Gunn Heritage Centre. Continue to Thurso (museum, also fine coastal
scenery at Dunnet and Duncansby Head).
DAY 3 - 115 MILES (184KM) Turn west to reach Durness (Smoo
Cave) via Strathnavar Museum and Tongue. Cape Wrath excursion option or turn south for
Scourie (Handa island bird reserve) to reach Lochinver.
DAY 4 - 68 MILES (109KM) Continue south (Inverpolly Nature
Reserve - Knockan) to Ullapool (shopping), then south again via Corrieshalloch Gorge to
Inverewe Gardens.
DAY 5 - 110 MILES (176KM) TO INVERNESS Continue south to
Gairloch (heritage museum), Kinlochewe (nearby nature reserve), Glen Torridon (nature
reserve), Shieldaig and Lochcarron. Either return to Inverness or visit Skye via Kyle of
Lochalsh or continue to Kintail and West Highland itineries. |
