Alastair's Holiday around Pitlochry
Day 12

Today I decided to do an in depth analysis of Pitlochry as it's obviously a very popular tourist town both with International visitors as well as local Scottish visitors given the number of Scots accents I've heard around the place :-)

I arranged to use the Internet Cafe in Pitlochry as my base for operations and many thanks to Martin for his help in getting me setup...

I then headed up to the top of the town and started to take pictures on the way back...

This is Macnaughtons where they do a whole range of Scottish and Clan products, tartans, kilts, etc. Neil Fraser told me they helped to design a new tartan for the Fraser clan. Across the road you can have a sit down Indian curry... Scotland's favourite food!

Over the road you'll note two eating places. The first is a takeaway fish and chip shop again very popular in Scotland and next door is Macdonalds where you can get Bed & Breakfast but also a traditional Scottish High Tea which are getting increasingly rare in Scotland.  I did in fact try the High Tea and thoroughly enjoyed the main meal of fish and chips but thought the scone and cakes were a bit stale as if they were yesterdays.  Service was good and fast. You could get a room that day at £22.00. Also shown is the Whisky Shop with lots of brands to choose from

Yet another hotel and bar of which there are dozens in Pitlochry and The Paper Shop where you can get your daily paper

The Backpackers Hotel and Country Wear shops

Edinburgh Woollen Mill and Knitwear Centre and local Chemist

Lots of wee gifts to take home with you

Great place to get your smokes, newspapers, books, etc.

A really great butcher if you are self catering

And this is where you book your theatre tickets and looking up the street from the main road

The above four pictures are of the one true independent shop in Pitlochry and above left is the owner and renowned whisky expert and above is one of his oldest customers :-)

Above left are the staff of the local charity chop and on the right husband and wife team that manage Scotland's hotel.
