The close season for trout in Scotland is from 7 October to 14 March, both says inclusive,
but many clubs extend this close season still further to allow the fish to reach better
condition.
Fresh trout may not be sold between the end of August and the
beginning of April, and not at anytime if less that eight inches long.
As a rule of thumb, the fishing on the west coast does not
really get going until around the end of June. Rivers on the east coast have a much longer
usable season and fish can often be taken right from the opening to the closing dates.
