[Words composed by her Great
Grandson John Henderson on 13th August, 2005, to Haydn Wood's music for
the song 'Roses of Picardy']
{ Janet (Richardson Kerr (1855-1925) and James A. Kerr DCM (1895 - Aug.
1917) }
She is waiting by her window,
An old mother with tear-worn eyes.
Looks so longing and faithfully waiting,
Silently praying before she dies,
"Please bring some news of my youngest,
Of where out there in France my James fell.
My travel bag has long been ready,
For such a journey o'er to that hell."
Unmarked graves out there in Louverval,
In the mud of Cambrai's sour killing fields.
Unknown to her then was Louverval,
As death's shadow o'er Janet steals.
Sadly never to learn of that resting place,
For the brave lad so close to her heart.
So we mourn James in now peaceful Louverval,
And his mum, that vile war tore apart.
Unmarked graves out there in Louverval,
In the mud of Cambrai's sour killing fields.
Unknown to her then was Louverval,
As death's shadow o'er Janet steals.
Sadly never to learn of that resting place,
For the brave lad so close to her heart.
So we mourn James there in peaceful Louverval,
And his mum, that vile war tore apart. |
