Margo Fallis's Poetry Page
Scotland
1-15-02

Summer nights, long with light,
the sun never setting
below the horizon.
Culloden’s battlefields,
rusted swords, headstones,
cries of dying Highlanders.
Oban with its harbor,
sea breezes, Gaelic signposts,
welcome all to the highlands.
Thistle, purple, prickly,
stands proud, a symbol
of the country.
Lassies and ladies
dancing the fling,
running about in tartan kilts,
enjoy life.
Angus cows, solid, black hides,
provide creamy milk
and tasty beef.
Nevis, the highest peak,
known as a Ben,
majestic, heather covered.
Distilleries dot the meadows,
whiskey, blended
with the finest water.
Scotland, a land with a brave,
courageous heritage,
is my homeland.
