Lyrics composed by
John Henderson on the 16th of July, 2013,
to Australia's A. Emmett Adams' 1945 music for the song, 'The
Bells Of St. Mary's'.
Our land of the thistle
Of glens and high mountains
Was birth-place to heroes
At home and o'er sea;
Its people were lauded
For wisdom, compassion,
Inventiveness and leadership
Where'er they'd be.
.....
Their 'cradle' was Scotland
That first weaned then nurtured
Their promise of greatness
At home and o'er sea;
St Andrew their patron,
The Saltire and Lion
United their purposiveness
Where'er they'd be.
Today 'Independence'
Is sought in their homeland,
For 'Union' no longer
Seems balanced and fair;
At present this 'marriage',
Most biassed in practice,
Disparages and oft neglects
Scots 'mair an' mair' !
......
The 'Flower' that's Scotland
Will bloom all the better
When freed from oppression
And London-based scorn;
But 'Scot-free' they'll struggle
With less oil to furnish
The needs of thousands immigrants
And all their own ! |
