Old Quilt Stockings |
If
you have an old worn quilt from a grandmother that you can’t use
because it is coming apart, use some brown paper to cut a stocking
pattern and cut Christmas stockings from the quilt. Sew the front and
back with right sides together, turn right side out and turn the top
edge down about 3 inches. Glue lace to the bottom of the unfinished
edge. Glue silk ribbon roses, pearls, and ribbon streamers to the center
of the side, which will show when you hang the stocking up. Sew a ribbon
loop to the top edge of the stocking where you will hang it up. Put four
large teabags in the bottom of your kitchen sink and pour boiling water
over them. Let the water turn dark with the tea and add a little more
hot water. Put the finished stocking into the tea water to dye it to
make it look old. Soak for 10 minutes then wring out and put into the
clothes dryer to dry. I used an old quilt of my grandmother’s to make
stockings for her great-great-granddaughters last Christmas. If you have
a picture, which you can copy, of the maker of the quilt, it is nice to
buy an old-style frame and put this down inside the stocking along with
a note including your memories of the person who made the quilt. |
