Buddy, the butterfly, didn't want to
fly south with all the other butterflies. Every year it was the same
thing. All the butterflies in the forest flew south to warmer climate.
This year Buddy didn't want to go.
While all the other butterflies
fluttered away, Buddy flew in the other direction. He flew over the lake
and between the tall pines. When he turned around to look, not one
butterfly could be seen. Buddy hummed a tune as he flew through the empty
sky.
Suddenly he was knocked to the side
by a gust of wind. "What was that?"
A noise, sounding like a million
bumblebees, drew closer. "Yikes!" Just then an airplane zipped by. Zoom!
Zoom! Then another flew past, blowing Buddy into a puffy white cloud. Soon
the sky was full of loud airplanes going this way and that.
"You're going the wrong way!" One of
the pilots opened the airplane window and shouted to Buddy.
Buddy didn't know what to do.
"Help!" He tried to fly to the left, but an airplane flew right at him. He
tried to fly to the right, but once again another plane came his way. "I'm
getting out of here!"
He flew down towards the ground and
away from the airplanes. "I'm going south with the rest of the
butterflies." Staying just above the treetops, Buddy flew until he caught
up with the others. "From now on, I'm doing what all the others do!" He
flew with them into the sunset. |
