Children's Poems
by Margo Fallis
We All Look the Same

“We all look the same.”

“No we don’t.”

“Yes, we do.”

“You can think that if you want,

But I  know I don’t look exactly like you,

Or you, or you, or even you.”

“Oh yeah?”

“Yeah. For instance, I have 574 feathers

On my chest,

And you have 599.

Bubu has 423, and Rala has 854.

So there.

And, all of your beaks are shaped differently.

Rala has more blue in his eyes than me.”

Bubu, Rala and Jojo looked at each other.

Jojo even started countin the feathers on his chest.

His jaw dropped.

“He’s right. We are different; but we look so much alike

In every other way.”

“It only takes one thing to make us unique.”

For the rest of the day the birds spent the hours

Looking in mirrors and checking each other out.

Silly birds.
