Children's Poems

Two Ugly Birds

Two ugly birds sat way up in a tree.

Neither ever left because they were ugly as can be.

They had blue feet and a bright yellow patch

And all they ever did was scratch, scratch, scratch.

They had big beaks, far too big as you see.

Each had a red tip and black lines; how ugly.

One morning as they sat watching a cloud,

A vulture landed on their branch; it was loud.

It made horrible noises and it smelled awful bad.

It looked at the toucans and felt rather sad.

You see, the vulture thought that they were very pretty,

With all the colors on their beaks, it’s was itty bitty.

When the toucans saw the vulture’s ugly face,

They knew it was more horrid than theirs; that was the case.

They smiled at each other and picked up their blue feet,

And flew off into the sunset to find a bit of meat.
