GLASSFORD, LORD,
a title in the peerage of Scotland, conferred in 1685 on Francis
Abercrombie of Fetterneir, brother of Dr. Patrick Abercrombie, author of
the ‘Martial Achievements of the Scottish Nation,’ and eldest son of
Alexander Abercrombie of Fetterneir, Aberdeenshire, a branch of the
house of Birkenbog, in Banffshire. Having married Anne, Baroness Sempill,
in hew own right, he was created a peer of Scotland, b the title of Lord
Glassford (from an ancient property of the Sempill family of that name)
5th July 1685, for his life only. He does not appear ever to
have taken his seat in parliament, and the title became extinct at his
death. He had several children by Lady Sempill (see SEMPILL, Lord).
