A Scot in China of Today
Jiajiang Tsing Yi River Rock Carvings

THIS IS A PLACE IS A WORLD HERITAGE SITE, IT LIES ON BANK OF QINGYI TOWN ABOUT ONE HOUR FROM LESHAN CITY.

THIS WHOLE AREA IN SICHUAN PROVINCE HAS THOUSANDS OF CARVINGS AND TEMPLES AND BUDDHA STATUES THEY ARE STILL UNCOVERING ANCENT ARTIFACTS EVERY YEAR.I WAS SO AMAZED AND PRIVLAGED TO BE ABLE TO SEE THIS WORDERFULL CARVINGS IT ACUTALY TOOK MY BREATH AWAY BUT FOR THE LOCAL WHO SEE IT EVERY DAY THINK NOTHING OF IT.

ON THE FIRST PHOTO POSTED YOU CAN READ A BIT ABOUT THE AREA AND SEE HOW FAR IT DATES FROM. THE AMAZING THING WAS DID NOT MATTER WHERE YOU LOOKED THERE WAS CARVINGS AND MANY I DID NOT SEE AS THE RIVER WAS RUNNING SO HIGH THE DAY I WAS THERE. ONE THING I NOTICED WAS THE WATER WAS RUNNING UNDER THE WALK WAY AND SWIRLING AROUND INTO THE LARGE CLIFF OVER HANG.I WAS SLIGHTLY DISAPPOINTED TO SE SO MANY OF THE STATUES HAD BEEN DEFACED BUT I THINK THIS WAS DONE DURING THE CULTURE REVELOTION I SEEM TO HAVE READ SOMEWHERE A LOT OF RELIGIOUS FIGURES WERE DEFACED THIS MIGHT MAKE SENCE AS IT IS ONLY THE ONES WHICH CAN BE REACH TO THE LEVAL OF BEING ON YOUR TIP TOES.AND I HVE SEEN THIS ALL OVER CHINA NOT JUST HERE I HAVE SEEN THE FIGURE IN THE SOUTH AND THE NORTH ALL HAVING THERE FACES BROKEN OFF OR THERE WHOLE HEADS REMOVED.

WE HAD A GOOD WALK ALONG THE RIVER BANK AND VISITED A TEMPLE AS YOU WILL SEE IN THE PHOTOS AND ALL THIS TYPE A PLACES ARE WORTH A PEEK AND ALSO WORTH THE CLIMB SOMETIMES JUST TO SEE THE DECORE INSIDE AND SEE THE SIZE OF THE BUDDHAS AND HOW COLOURFUL THEY ARE.I CAN NOT TELL YOU HOW EXCITED I WAS TO SEE SO MUCH CARVINGS IN ONE PLACE AND DID ASK MYSELF HOW LONG IT TOOK THEM TO DO IT AND WHEN DID THEY STOP AND WERE DID THEY GO AND TO THINK THEY HAVE BEEN AROUND 2300 YEARS AND TO HAVE SURVIVED ALL THE EARTH QUAKES AND HUGE RIVER SURGES OVER THE CENTURIES.

THIS PATHWAY IS USED BY THE LOCAL PEOPLE WHO LIVE ALONG THE RIVER BANK OR AT THE ENTRANCE OF THE WALK WAY TO THIS FANTASTIC PLACE, THE THING WAS NO ONE WAS BOTHERED ABOUT US AND IS WAS SO NICE TO SEE THE LOCAL PEOPLE PLAYING THERE GAMES IN THE AFTERNOON WIHOUT A CARE IN THE WORLD ONLY DOWN SIDE THERE WAS NO TABLES LEFT FOR THE TOURISTS BUT I SUPPOSE APART FROM A BACK PACKER I SEEN ON THE WAY IN I DID NOT SEE ANY OTHER TOURIST THE WHOLE TIME I WAS THERE.TO BE HONEST I HAD THE KNOWLEDGE OF A LOCAL AND I DO NOT THINK I WOULD HAVE FOUND IT WHITOUT HER.AS MANY OF THE CHINESE PEOPLE DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY HAVE NEXT DOOR TO THEM MOST OF THE TIME , AS MY FREINF WHO IS CHINESE SAYS TO ME I HAVE SEEN MORE OF CHINA THAN HE HAS.

I THINK IT IS BEST FOR YOU TO SEE THE PHOTOS AS THJEY WILL TELL YOU A BETTER STORY THAN I CAN PUT INTO WORD HERE. I WILL BE WRIGHTING MORE ON THIS AREA WITH LOADS OF PHOTOS TO GO ALONG WITH THE STORIES.
