Donna Flood
Ceramic Necklace

This is a frugal gift for around St. Pat's day.  You must do it well in advance.

Go to a ceramics store to purchase the very small pieces there. Maybe for earrings, checker set pieces or anything small. With any small pointed instrument work slowly and carefully to carve through the piece for a small hole. Purchase an Underglaze for a bright green color.  If you do ceramics you will have a brush, if not a q-tip will work.  On the green ware piece make four green Shamrock leaves for a four leaf clover. You can take a toothpick and draw a stem on the four leaves. Have them fired.  It isn't necessary to fire them twice since this will cost you the price of a clear glaze. Firing once will give a softer finish and you aren't using them with food so this is okay.

Run a bright green narrow ribbon through the hole (after the piece has been fired)  You will now have a small piece of artwork for gifts for the children.  The checker pieces were 5 cents each.  The underglaze was three or four dollars. The ribbon a couple dollars.  The thing is the little gift is a piece of artwork and something children do appreciate for some reason.
