Ships Fer A’ O’er ‘e World
By Stanley Bruce

Listen to this poem here read by Stanley Bruce

We biggit ‘Ships fer a’ o’er ‘e world’
An’ supply boats fer ‘e North Sea,
A’ kinds o’ ships,
We launched intae ‘e Dee.

‘e launch days they were brilliant,
An’ they aye attracted mony a crood,
Tae see a ship bein’ launched,
Aye made mi feel, affa prood.

We biggit ships fer ‘e Royal Navy,
We designed ‘em an’ sailed in ‘em too,
They were sleek, they were fast,
Steam-lined, an’ some o’ ‘em twin-screw.

Tea clippers wi’ an ‘Aberdein Bow’,
Drifters an’ fishing boats,
Cargo an’ passenger ships,
We biggit jist aboot onything ‘at floats.

During ‘e World Wars,
‘e shipyard workers they did their duty,
They biggit frigates an’ corvettes,
Biggit fer action, nae fer beauty.

We biggit ‘Ships fer a’ o’er ‘e world’,
Aye, ‘at’s fair tae say,
An’ a’ o’er ‘e world, they sailed,
An’ some still dee, tae ‘es very day.

S. Bruce.
