Brought To Life
By Stanley Bruce

Listen to this poem here read by Stanley Bruce

I name this ship…….
And the bottle is smashed,
With a crash on her bow.
Shipwrights with axes,
Noisily cut the triggers,
Then silence.
All eyes affixed,
On this great steel hull,
Only friction holds her in place,
Then, I see her move,
And it raises a smile on my face.
Down the Ways, and into the harbour she goes,
The drag chains follow,
Crawling down the slip,
Screeching and squealing like a thousand mice,
Dust rising as they pull her to a halt.
She now has a name,
She’s been brought to life,
Look at her, sitting proudly in the water,
It’s amazing!

Stanley Bruce,
