Join us as we spend a
gloriously sunny, blustery morning at the breathtaking Achindoun Castle
perched high on a grassy hill above the River Fiddich, in the heart of
Scotland’s whisky country. Surrounded by rolling hills, wildflowers, and
endless blue skies, this remote 15th-century ruin has one of the most
awe-inspiring views in all of Moray.
Built in the mid-1400s, Achindoun Castle was once the stronghold of the
powerful Cochrane, Ogilvy, and Gordon families. Its history is steeped
in betrayal, sieges, and clan rivalry including a violent attack in
1592, when the castle was stormed and burned during a feud between the
Gordons and the Mackintoshes.
Of course, Scott couldn’t resist the chance to re-enact one of the
historic battles at the foot of the ruined walls — complete with
dramatic narration and some wind-blown theatrics Katie, meanwhile,
braves the gusts to soak in the views and reflect on the lives once
lived here.
