Arrived in Ridgetown and
picked up our next guide for the area. As we didn't manage to get of
the bus all I could do was try to take some pictures from inside but they
didn't really work out. Essentially Ridgetown has a lot of very old
buildings back into the early 1800's. They also have a fine Agricultural
college that is part of the University of Guelph and is attracting an
increasing number of students.
There are a couple of web sites to get more information
on the Ridgetown area:
It was then onto Parks
Blueberries where were met by the owner who provided us with some wee
blueberry snacks and a glass of iced tea which were very welcome.
Here are the owners and I was very pleased to
be given a complimentary blueberry pie to try out. Unfortunately it fell
onto the floor in the bus so I wasn't able to show you the complete
product but I did enjoy a slice when I got home...
and you'll note no sugar but err.. yes that is
cream on the pie <gulp>
browsing the tremendous selection of products
and I did buy a little jar of blueberry jam
and a blueberry poppyseed dressing
We also got a wee talk about blueberries
They draw water from the local river each
night to water the plants. You'll note the heavy cables along the field...
well contained within black plastic are netting which next week they will
pull over the fields to protect the berries from the birds.
You can visit their web site
at www.blueberi.com
I also picked up a brochure
about their store and operation and here it is for you to read here...
And here is an article about Blueberries |
