Crepe Myrtles

With all the rain we had this year the crepe myrtles are blooming so well.  This is the back door but so many of the family come and go here they make for a pleasant entrance. Crepe myrtle grow easily in this area and are very hardy.  Occasionally, a cold winter will freeze them back to the ground but they come back from the roots.  I like them because they stay for quite a while and provide wonderful fresh arrangements for inside the house and to give away.  The shrubs do especially well if they get plenty of water and bloom for a longer period of time.  Years ago a sister in law from California taught me how to prune the ends of the branches off so there will be a double bloom the next year.
