The Davidson Connection?
The following cemetery inscriptions were found in a 1983 issue of the
magazine, "Scottish Home and Country." One wonders if there might be some
connection:
"In Cromarty there is an ancient burial ground, high on a
hillside overlooking Cromarty Firth where one is looking out to
sea. A slight mystery surrounds #25, where lies interred the body
of Elizabeth Rose (?Ross) who d. in 1714, wife of Alexander
Davidson, Sheriff Clerk of Cromarty who departed this life December
7, 1714. Also in the same plot is Gills Dingwall, third spouse of
Alexander Davidson. Where is wife #2? .... An older stone in the
same railed compound contains notation of Alexander Davidson,
Notary Public of Cromarty and spouse Elspeth ....dep....(all could
get from stone - difficult to read)."
