Sir Ian
Noble, a Gaelic-speaking landowner, is selling the Barony of
MacDonald for 1 million pounds, or about $1.5 million - the highest
price ever asked for a feudal title. The price for the 800-year-old
title also includes the ruins fo the 15th-century MacDonald
stronghold Knock Castle on the Isle of Skye and four acres of land.
The current Lord MacDonald, Chief of the MacDonalds, said Sir Ian
had alerted him to the sale in advance but he had no plans to bid on
the title. "It would be nice if the title went to a member of Clan
Donald. But at the very least, I hope the buyer will use the title
in the best interests of the name of our great clan and of Skye," he
said. Whoever buys the title, which is being marketed by
Baronytitles.com, would be able to call themselves Baron of
MacDonald. |
