The Ellen Payne Odom Genealogy Library Family Tree
The Family Tree - Jun/Jul 2002
Mrs. Inez Booth saves the day!

Mrs. Inez Booth saves the day!
from your Editor....

I travel to as many Highland Games and other genealogical and Scottish events as I can, time permitting and the budget holding out. Most of the time, I earn most of the travel expenses by making speeches and presenting programs. Much of the time, I am invited to stay in the homes of friends in the area and many of the games present The Odom Library/ your editor with comp tickets to receptions and other events. (Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!)

Even with all of the work and gifts and comp tickets, it is expensive to travel the long distances sometimes required. My own personal car is leased and I have limited miles. (The story behind that is that your editor's faithful, many-miles-traveled 1994 Mazda MX6 had a fatal transmission problem - CLANG! CRASH! CRUNCH?! NO GOING ANYWHERE! - coming home from the 2001 Stone Mountain Highland Games...right where the Macon By-Pass rejoins I-75 where everyone is going 80 miles an hour and there are dozens of lanes of traffic!) Barely surviving that, a leased car came to live with me.

Anyway, the main source of travel money is the annual Family Tree Newsletter Contest...which, at $25 an entry, doesn't nearly cover the expense of traveling.

Mrs. Inez Boothe, from Stone Mountain, Georgia has helped greatly with this problem. Mrs. Boothe sent a MOST generous contribution just for travel.

Thank you, Inez! Inez and her late husband, Ed, were every-year participants in our Scottish Weekends...and we've become good friends over the years. I am so grateful to Inez Booth! Thank you!
Mr. & Mrs. Royce McNeill of Charlotte, North Carolina, has also come to the aid of our travel. Thanks Royce and Doris!

I am completely humbled by your kindnesses. Thank you.
