CLAN MACLEOD SOCIETY on Kilted Cruise – JUNE
17 – 19, 2005
The
Annual General Meeting of the Clan MacLeod Society, USA, Inc., was held on
board the Sovereign of the Seas, a cruise ship out of Port Canaveral,
Florida, on June 18, 2005, with President William C. MacLeod presiding.
Reports of activities since the last meeting were given by each of the
Council members. It was agreed that the Annual General Meeting in 2006
would be held at the same time as Parliament in Dunvegan, Scotland on the
Isle of Skye from July 26th to August 5, 2006. Details of this
meeting will be forthcoming in the next editions of the Clan MacLeod
Newsletter and Magazine.
The
members of Council and Officers were elected for the coming year and they
are: William C. MacLeod, President; Anne MacLeod, Secretary; Richard
MacLeod, Treasurer; Jay McClure, Newsletter Editor; Dixie McCaskill Lewis,
Genealogy; John MacLeod Tutterow, Counsel; John B. MacLeod, Chairman
Dunvegan Foundation; Franklin Wyatt, III, Awards; Gloria McLeod, Publicity
and Recording Secretary; Norman Livermore, Culture; Rev. Dr. James A.
McLeod, Chaplain; William G. MacLeod, Internet Editor; Regional VPs -
Donald MacLeod, Robert MacLeod, Richard Rowley, John N. MacLeod, Arthur J.
Nicol, Franklin Wyatt III, Larry McLeod, Douglas Beaton, Judy McClure
Wisehart, Weeden Nichols, Michael Barger and Penny McLeod Degraff.
Trustees for the Dunvegan Foundation, the charitable arm of the Clan
MacLeod Society, were also elected.
The
business portion of the cruise was handled as briefly as possible in order
for the attendees to enjoy the activities on board the ship and to go
ashore at Nassau and CocoCay, the docking ports. The time ashore at
CocoCay was cut short by a heavy thunderstorm but that did not dampen the
spirit of the hearty MacLeod group.
Arthur J.
Nicol, Regional Vice President of the Upper Midwest Region, was voted
Clansperson of the Year by members of Clan MacLeod Society in recognition
of his outstanding service to the Society. Art has loyally attended all
Scottish Highland Games in his very large Region and has spread Clan
MacLeod’s heritage in the states of North and South Dakota, Minnesota and
Wisconsin. The group also recognized his wife, Audrey, who accompanies
her husband to all regional Games and other clan activities.
Jay
McClure, Past Regional Vice President of the Southeast Region of the Clan
MacLeod Society, with the help of his wife, Pam, and other officers in the
Southeast Region, made all arrangements for the cruise. Clan MacLeod
Society had a memorable and wonderful time and we thank the Southeast
Region for their hard work in arranging all details connected with the
cruise.
