Undue Alarm
In the days when the upper
reaches of the River Clyde could only take very small vessels, a small
steamboat stuck in the mud near Renfrew, and the Skipper had reluctantly to
wait for the rising tide and hope to be refloated.
Fuming and raging at the
delay, he saw a little boy taking his toy bucket to the riverside for
some water. This was enough to bring the Skipper's anger to boiling
point. Leaning over the side of his vessel he roared "Tak wan bucket o
watter out o this river afore A get afloat an A'll wairm yir lug !"
