Population not known
This picturesque village is arguably the
first on the River Clyde due to its proximity to its source.
Only a mile from the M74, it has easy access
to the central belt and northern England.
History
The village grew around a rail junction
serving the mining areas of Leadhills and Wanlockhead. The 'Navvies
Graveyard' near the Clyde Bridge commemorates 37 workers who died while
building the Caledonian Railway line. |
