I’ve been trying to save
a bit of Scotland’s heritage with the beer founts that are in a
decline. These are purely a Scottish thing and are really only found in
Edinburgh now. I started repairing them at the beginning of the year
and a bit of a revolution has come about! I’m now making new ones and
sorting the old units!
There’s been a bit of a
media frenzy going on here about it! Have a look, as will see my
website skills have not improved with age!

I stumbled across your
site again because I was digging about trying to find out info on Aitken
of Edinburgh, they made these units in the 80’s and were the last to
make tall founts in Scotland (until now), the company folded in 1990.
They had a workshop in Morningside, 46 Balcarres Street, which I suspect
used to be a small iron foundry that was repurposed into making these
brass founts.
