The tribal origins of
the O'Donoghue name, Ó Donnchadha in Gaelic, are in Kerry/Cork,
Tipperary, Galway, Kilkenny (now as Dunphy) and Cavan to the
greatest extent, with other ancient tribes recognised in
Wicklow/Dublin, Meath and Mayo/Sligo. Migration has also created a
large community in Clare. Today there are about 300 name variants
throughout the world. The O'Donoghue of the Glens is one of the few
recognised hereditary chieftains in Ireland today.
