My great-great-grandparents,
John McIntyre and Teresa Armstrong, were born and raised in Co Fermanagh in
Northern Ireland. However, before emmigrating to Australia, they were
married in Glasgow. This occurred in the early 1870's, because their second
child, a girl named Mary (my grandmother's aunt), was born here in
Queensland in 1872. Their first child, a boy, was born mid-journey, but died
young. John died in 1897 and is buried in the small Queensland town of
Stonehenge. Teresa subsequently remarried, her second husband an Englishman
born in Middlesex, and bore him a son (my grandmother's uncle). Teresa died
in the Queensland city of Mackay in 1918 of the bubonic plague, an outbreak
of which was the direct result of a cyclone that hit the area three weeks
beforehand... I do not know John's parents' names, but Teresa's parents were
James Armstrong and Mary O'Brien. John and Teresa had a number of children
together, including my great-grandfather, Patrick, whose younger daughter
was my grandmother, whose one and only daughter was my mother.
