Stevenson, Thomas

My Great, Great, Great Grandfather was Thomas Stevenson born june 1767 in Glasgow and married in January 1795 to Janeth Campbell. One of their four sons, Donald, born in March 1807, Glasgow, travelled to Cartagena de Indias as British Consul and married here in 1831 (?) to Nicolasa Diaz Granados y Paniza and had 6 Children. One of them Thomas, my great grandfather married Teresa Macia Macaya, and their Daughter Paulina born 1858 married Rafael de Zubiria august 1888 they had 4 sons one of which, Maria Paulina, is my mother. I am very curious about how someone so young could have been named Consul of the Empire, or is there an error somewhere?
