Mini Biographies of Scots and Scots Descendants (P)
Powrie, Henry Jack

Powrie, Henry JackPrivate Henry Jack Powrie was the great grandson, of William Powrie of Liff. Henry was also born there in 1850. Many of this family would work as stone cutters and masons, and there is one family picture labelled Dundee Stone Cutters Club picnic. Henry and several members of his family emigrated to Ontario, Canada and it is while serving the 48th Canadian Regiment of the famed Blackwatch that Henry Jack Powrie fell in Pas de Calais, France in 1916. It is poignant and a bit ironic that there is a Blackwatch Memorial, just west of Dundee, sits on Powrie Brae. 26 Powrie soldiers and sailors have given their lives when the world needed them, for Canada, South Africa, Australia, England and our native Scotland.

Another of William's great grandson's Douglas Alexander would die died fighting for South African Infantry in 1918 in Somme, France and these two cousins lay for eternity in French soil.

Thanks to Mary Powrie Schacht  for sending this in.
