Dear Alistair I enjoy your
letters very much and love the childrens stories which I read to my
granddaughter. I also like looking up recipes and mince n' tatties are a
favourite.
I came to New York City in 1960 as a Nanny. I really wanted to go to
Australia but my mother didn't know anybody there and I had a cousin in
Rochester New York so it was alright for me to come here. The first time she
came to visit me and I sent her to see my cousin she said if she had known
how far away Rochester was from where I was she never would have let me
come. I was eighteen when I came here and found it quite daunting I was
afraid of my shadow and all that strange food especially the Italian food
Calamari, Eggplant, scungilli. It took me a few years to even try the stuff.
But I am married to a man of Italian descent and can cook and eat as well as
any Italian. I made lots of friends and now live in Long Island and have two
children and four grandchildren. And go back home once or twice a year. My
Husband still doesn't get, Scotland is my home even although I have been
here 45yrs. I was born in Balfour St Maryhill and moved to Vaila St Cadder I
have four sisters who live in Cumbernauld. My Maiden name is Peat.
Hope this is the kind of letter you were
asking for
