My gr.grandfather, Charles W.
Norval, was born in upstate New York to Scottish parents. Although he never
got to Scotland, he was extremely proud of his roots and used to sent back
to a clothing firm in Scotland for my grandfather's cloths. Well...they
lived in a small, very rural area and my grandfather's clothing was, to say
the least, a bit different. In small rural towns, it seemed back in the
early 1900s, everyone was given a nickname and the whole community knew that
person by their nickname. My grandfather's nickname became "Squire" because
of his dress. One day, my gr.grandfather had the order ready to be mailed
and my grandfather steamed open the envelope and changed the order so at
least he would get a pair of pants that looked similar to what everyone else
in town wore. I guess my gr.grandfather was livid but my grandfather was
happy.
Cheers from Canada!!!
