Our thanks to
Gordon Millar for sending this
in.
The earliest Millar traceable in this family history is Andrew Miller.
The Millar name changed from -er to -ar with the birth of his
grandchildren.
Andrew was born in Freuchie, Fife about 1800. He married Margaret
Davidson of Wemyss, Fife. They had 3 children, the eldest being
William who was born about 1832, in Freuchie. William married
Elizabeth Duncan, daughter of James Duncan of Falklan who was a brewer
and maltster. The Miller's moved around a bit. William being a small
time farmer and cattleman. They settled in Strathmiglo in the 1860's
but were also found in Abernethy, Perth in 1868. William and Elizabeth
had 6 children who also worked on the land. Eventually all appear to
have settled around Kinnesswood, Kinross-shire by the latter half of
the 19th century. Elizabeth was committed to Cupar mental asylum
around the mid 1890's and died there in 1902. The youngest child of
William and Elizabeth was Henry Duncan who was born in 1868. He
married Catherine More of Kinnesswood, Kinross. Their son also called
Henry Duncan Millar was born in 1906 and his son, also named the same
born in 1928, ended up in Glasgow, marrying Martha Niven. Their son
Gordon, emigrated to Australia, marrying and starting a family there.
