Biographies of Scots and Scots Descendants (G) Grieg,
Edvard
(1843-1907) Norway’s greatest
composer who was descended from Alexander Greig (note spelling change), a
British consul general stationed at Bergen who settled there in 1779.
Grieg’s mother also had Scottish ancestry, being descended from one
Andrew Christie. Arthur Rubenstein, the pianist, said that Rachmaninoff
had told him that Grieg’s Concerto in A Minor was the best concerto ever
written "without exception."
