Biographies of Scots and Scots Descendants (C)
Cameron, David |
The son of Duncan and Margaret Cameron -
Duncan Cameron his Father was born 1814 in Isle of Islay, Argyll,
Scotland. He emigrated with his family to Canada where he lived out the
remaining years of his life in Oror township, Simcoe, Ontario. He had two
son,s Donald and David, both born in Canada.
David moved to Flos Township from Oro Township when Flos was mostly dense
forest wilderness seldom frequented by white people. He was one of the few
settlers arriving and setting up farms in the mid 1800's.
He built a log cabin on his farm on the 8th. Concession of the Flos at the
20th. Side road, in the county of Simcoe. Ten years later in 1876, he
built the 'Cameron Homestead' on his farm. David gave the northwest corner
of his property to the community for the cemetery where he and Jemima
Cameron are buried. This cemetery is known as the 'Cameron Cemetery'.
His first love was Mary Buchannan, but she would not marry him because she
felt obligated to stay with her ailing mother. When he was twenty five he
married Jemima Langman, and they had seven children.
In 1894, five years after Jemima's death, Mary buchanna's mother died
relieving her from her caring obligation. David then asked her to marry
him. She accepted and became a loving wife to him and a wonderful mother
to his seven children.
