Retired Board of Trade Merchant in 1911. Born Kerr's Creek, Rockbridge
Co., VA, the son of Hugh and Amanda (McCormick) Adams, mother was daughter
of Robert McCormack, ed. Chicago Public Schools and old Univ of Chicago;
married Chicago 9/26/1878 Emma J., daughter of Lyman Blair; one son, Cyrus
H., Jr. Entered employ of Cyrus H. McCormick & Co., 1867; became
member of the firm of McCormick, Adams and Co. in 1871 and head of the
firm of Cyrus H. Adams & Co., 1883; retired from business due to ill
health in 1889. during 1871-89 was member of the Arbitration committee;
member of the Appeals com. and a dir. of the board of Trade. Was dir. Nat.
Bank of America. Independent Democrat, Presbyterian, Trustee, McCormick
Theological Seminary; member Board of Governors, Presbyterian Hospital for
a number of years; governing mem. Art Institute of Chicago; Member Union
League, Onwentsia, Saddle & Cycle. |
