Clan MacIntyre
Clan MacIntyre Assocation

The letters patent were signed by the Lord Lyon, King of Arms, on September 20, 1991.  These letters confirmed and ratified the arms of James Wallace MacIntyre of Glenoe, Chief of the Name and Arms of MacIntyre.  The crest is designated as "a dexter hand holding a dagger in pale proper," with the motto "Per Ardua".

This crest differs from the crest of the cadet branch of the clan, MacIntyre of Camus-na-h-Erie, which is presently being shown on the website.  The chief's crest does not include the snowball on the dagger nor the twist of tartan about the wrist.

While the crest of Camus-na-h-Erie remains suitable for followers of that cadet branch, the Chief's crest alone is approved for all members of Clan MacIntyre.

James Wallace MacIntyre died a couple of years ago and his son Donald Russell MacIntyre is the current Chief of the Clan MacIntyre.

The Clan MacIntyre Association was founded in 1978 as an international, nonsectarian and nonpartisan organization.  The purpose of the association is social and educational.   We host clan tents at many Highland Games across the U.S. and in Canada.  We also host an annual meeting and dinner in conjunction with a games.  The site is different from year to year.  We publish a quarterly newsletter "Per Ardua" which keeps us up to date on activities, clan business, Scottish history, folklore and genealogy.  Membership is open to anyone related by blood or marriage to anyone bearing one of the more than 50 spellings of the Gaelic name Mac an-t Saoir, including MacIntyre, McIntyre, McIntire, McAntire, McEntyre and McIntear.  Also eligilbe are persons related by blood or marriage to a Wright, which is a recognized sept of Clan MacIntyre.

Yours aye,
Martha McIntyre Jernberg
President, Clan MacIntyre Association
