Hello,
Alastair.
I hope that I'm not interrupting you too much with your
work on your website, however I'm sending you a photo of
me at the Advocates Library in Edinburgh taken this July
when we mere over in Scotland for my wife Jillian's
uncle Patrick's 40th anniversary of ordination into the
priesthood. He lives in Cupar Fife and I was staying in
the nursing home in Lochy Head just a short distance
away and uncle Patrick contacted The Advocates Larry and
got permission for me to go there in order to see the
Clan Keith battle banner that had been carried into
battle at Flodden 1315, when most of the Scottish
aristocracy were killed along with the Scottish King.
The Keith Earl Marisschal survived as did his banner on
which to this day is still visible his bloodstains
however after so many years, the bloodstains are now
brown instead of red.
It was
quite an honor to be able to go into The Advocates
Library since admission is normally restricted to
lawyers who are seeking precedence from ancient tombs
(legal) kept there apparently, they had been in
possession of the banner for many years without
realizing what it was until the edges became frayed and
they had to send it out to a proper museum for repairs,
the museum told them what a rare item. It was that they
had and exactly what it was and how important and
valuable. It was. After that, the people At the
Advocates Library enclosed the banner in a glass case
and put it away someplace special, as opposed to just
having it laying around or tacked a wall the way it had
been prior to their being informed of what exactly it
was that they had in their possession.
I just thought that you might find it (the photo)
interesting, feel free to edit out the weird looking guy
in the wheelchair so that you can have a better view of
the banner in the case.
Craig
