I was invited to the
Elliot
Clan Society, Ontario West Chapter AGM and was delighted to accept as
I'd never been to a Clan Society AGM before :-)
It was held in London, Ontario, which is
around an hours drive from my home in Chatham and thanks to excellent
directions got there in good time for the 11.45am kick off. Some 31 people
attended and a great time was had by all.
The Society had laid on a Turkey lunch and
there was plenty for all of us and excellent it was too. There was also a
special Elliot clan cake for dessert along with chocolate ice cream and
coffee to finish.
As well as the AGM where folk from the clan
reported on various events, discussed the financial health of the society
and a discussion about whether to continue the Sprint meeting there was
also the Elliot clan representative who gave a talk. Another member read
from a report from the very first meeting of the clan society 15 years
ago, this being their 15th anniversary.
Everyone received a clan crest fridge magnet
and a clan key fob as a wee present and there were so many raffle prizes
that everyone won at least one prize.
At the end of the event we were entertained by
some Scottish dancers and then everyone was encouraged to try a dance.
I was very impressed with the whole
organisation and the event itself and if you are an Elliot you really
should join this society. We broke up around 3.45pm which I am told was
later than anticipated but this was due to everyone having such a great
time.
I of course took many pictures and even three
wee video clips of the dancing so here they are...
Here is the Church where we had out meeting
And a good sized meeting room all laid out
with the raffle prizes on the back window
Lots of photographs laid out from past events
and a professional job done on the Agenda at each place setting
And a great job on the cake as well :-)
And here is Carole Nickels and Allan Nickels
who invited me to there AGM
I then set out to take some general pictures
of the people and the event as wee record for them
You can see here that they have lots of
genealogy laid out about the clan
Nothing like getting the young ones started at
an early age :-)
and now for the lunch :-)
This is Walt Elliot and as I understand it he
is the representative of the clan in North America
And now we meet the Scottish dancers who did a
great job of entertaining us and also helped with the general dancing in
teaching those of us less able to have a wee dance as well :-)
And the Clan Rattray presented the Clan Elliot
with a waterproof banner for their clan tent
And we were all keen to see who all had won
the many raffle prizes
And here is the winner of the bottle of wine I
took with me as my contribution. Mind you I had to tell him that he
couldn't drink it until at least June 2006! :-)
And so that was the AGM and
I'm sure everyone enjoyed it very much as I did myself. |
