the 16th century, and families of this name have long been settled in central Scotland.
John Cheape of Rossie, Fife, had two sons, General Sir John Cheape (1792-1875), who served
in Burma, and Douglas Cheape (1797-1861), Professor of Civil Law at Edinburgh University.
