In 1994 this wee iambic gem led a field of two
hundred and forty-eight others to win The Minute Award, one of fifty
categories run by the National Federation State Poetry Societies, Inc. in
the USA.
PARTING
THOUGHTS
I sleep full view in shroud
and socks
inside this box
with satin trim;
so cherubim.
"He looks alive . . ." " . . . just sound asleep."
" . . . but plant him deep!" A human trait
addressing fate.
As mourners sigh and shuffle by,
I wonder: Why
not he? Or she?
Instead of me!
