(In memory of my
Scottish ancestors, Houston, Hamilton and Gillis families. They were
beautifully depicted in "People Of Purpose, Volumes I and II, by my
cousin Garland Crowe DuPree.)
{This is dedicated to
King Robert I of Scotland. Robert de Brus not only won independence for
his people but also their love and respect. His gallantry and valor in
battle made him a national hero}.
His allegiance
now to Scotland sworn
By virtue of being Scottish born.
Earl of Carrick his people would sing
To the future of Scotland’s gallant king.
“The Hammer of the Scots” marched his force,
Invading Scotland and putting to the torch,
Villages of patrons cried and died from Edward’s soldiers’
steel.
Never forecast death with the past as Robert would appeal
To all Scots eager for freedom’s ring.
Hail to thee Robert The Bruce; hail Scotland’s gallant king,
Saint Andrew’s spirit dwells within
And becomes the shield of armored men
As Scotland’s sons fight and die now are sovereign and free,
And “Good King Robert” would live to see Scotland’s noble
victory.
