Oh it's sad when ye rin oot
o' whisky
when ye hear the pipes
an' ye ha' the thirst
but the bottle's dry an' that's yer lot.
Then the demons will get ye
an' drive ye quite mad
for the Water o' Life
an' the Hielants o' old
for Bonnie Dundee
an' for Wallace the Bold.
The guidwife says bedtime
ye've had quite enough
but ye ken very well
that ye havena quite yet
for there's still Flodden Hill tae be fought
an' Henry tae put in his place
the Union tae undo
an' the Darien Scheme tae avenge.
But like the song says
"Those days are past now
and in the past......"
An' then ye start thinkin'
why should the past be allowed tae remain?
We've a future tae think of
an' a realm tae regain.
